This has been an incredible week for my Dryden Student Artists!

Dryden Artists-Get your black markers ready for this year's Cultural Arts Fair Program Cover Design Contest. READ ALL THE RULES! Many students submit beautiful art that can't be used because they didn't follow the rules. Don't let that happen to you!
See entries from last year here.

In honor of our upcoming Author Visit on February 3rd (bubble-gum day) with Mrs. Ruth Spiro of Lester Fizz, Bubble-Gum Artist fame, we made our own book cover art. Read this post to learn more: http://bit.ly/A74bmM
Students used Keynote, their yearbook picture, a digital hat, and image of a pink bubble to reconstruct the cover art of the book so that they could look like a Bubble-Gum Artist just like Lester Fizz. View their artwork here.

Who would have thought that learning could be so fun. My first graders had a blast singing along to the REPEAT Fugleflicks video about color, line, and shape pattern with my magic glowing wand.
Have some Karaoke fun yourself with this link.

There are other songs on my wiki too set up for Karaoke.
If you do...share your videos of students singing with us

ABC/25 presents the District 25 Staff Variety Show on Saturday, February 4th at Thomas Middle School at 7:00pm.  Come and see your favorite Dryden staff members and staff members from the entire District 25 perform their talents.  Dryden's very own Len Deptula, Trish Fuglestad (me), Danielle Porte, Kathy Riesing, Joe Robinson and Bob Jares will be performing in this event.  There will be concessions and a raffle!  Show tickets are $5 each or a maximum of $20 per family.  You can purchase tickets either at Dryden in the office starting on Monday, January 30th or at the door.  Children and students must be accompanied by an adult and all proceeds will be used by the ABC/25 Foundation's Annual large School Grant to District 25's WIRED program.  We hope to see you there!

These 30 students will have a piece of artwork from their digital portfolio on Artsonia printed on a mousepad for the LMC computers for the whole school to enjoy! This is made possible by Box Tops for Education. Thank you for clipping and sending those in. They make a difference!
View the artwork selected for each of the winners on our gallery on Artsonia.
(Artsonia will be making the mousepads for us).

Great news gang! I just found out from Jessica over at The Art of Education that my blog has been selected as one of the finalists to win "Art Ed Blog of the Year!" Very exciting. This is such a great idea, and I've already discovered a lot of great new Art Ed Blogs through the nomination page
Here's the thing though... I need your help to win! Voting is open this whole week from today through Saturday the 21st. Could I ask you to take 30 seconds, follow this link:
http://theartofed.com/2012/01/15/finalists-announced-vote-for-art-ed-blog-of-the-year/ and vote for our blog win?! All you have to do is click on the name of our blog in the poll, and click vote! It's that easy. We've got the best fans out there, so I'm confident that if you all take just a second to vote, we’ll be promoted to one of the Top 10 Art Ed Blogs of 2011! Thank you so much!
Thanks to my nominator, Suzanne Tiedemann, Brunswick Acres Elementary, NJ. View blog.

Last November I was honored with an invitation to be a regular contributor to

aRTs Roundtable Hosted by music educator Carol Broos and supported by fellow arts educators Tricia Fuglestad, Brenda Muench, and Jennifer Kolze, The aRTs Roundtable discusses the innovative happenings within arts education.

I received this message yesterday from the Chicago International Children's Film Festival:

"We have selected your films Complementary in Every Way and The Glue Blues for the launch edition of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival Online and would like to invite your participation. The films will be screened with no charge to the viewer, and no entry fee to you. Our goal is simple: to showcase the very best in films made by children and youth for other children and youth."

WOW! What an amazing compliment!

Our Fugleflicks are student-created art-related movies that teach us something useful for art education. We've been fortunate enough to have had some of these Fugleflicks screened at local, national, and international film festivals and student video contests.
View our Fugleflick Collection online on Vimeo. Use this index to get started.

Meanwhile, let's enjoy the best in films for children by children below!

The mouse pads will be purchased with funds from Box Tops for Education and processed through our online art gallery on Artsonia. Thanks for snipping & sending in box tops!
