Graffiti Art Created Online11/30/2011 Graffiti Creator is an super easy online tool for creating digital graffiti words. I found this while exploring the Artsonia art gallery of Deyana Matt, middle school art teacher in Illinois. I googled around and found this site to make these creations. Here is my first try below. 
There are so many ways for students to tell their stories on the iPad. It took no time at all to create this very unrehearsed and spontaneous fairy tale using the free version of the Puppet Pals HD App. It gives you the option to make customized characters and settings for a price (which would be very cool) but everything you see here was free. Explore the app here. One of the challenges of doing iPad art projects is giving students access to the images they need to complete their project. Usually I use the dropbox app (sign up for free here http://db.tt/8OXEHNn ). But when you're working with the younger students, like kindergartners, logging in and reading file names would be hard to do. So I finally figured out a really easy solution. Take a look. If you want to use my template, download it here. 4 Comments Organized Chaos11/27/2011 When we get creative in the art room (which is often) sometimes it looks like pure chaos. There is giddiness, lots of word spouting and brainstorming, flitting around the room in excitement...and that's just me-imagine when the kids join in. So I tried to create a structure to help the flow of creativity channel into a stream of usefulness. I put together a video from a part of my "Make Your School House Rock" presentation describing how we organize making Fugleflicks. See this below. Here is a behind the scenes look at our organized chaos in this video of students working on the Fugleflick, Show of Hands (about visual literacy). I have a feeling that the iPads will be a wonderful tool for Rotoscoping. I'm working on a plan to try this with my students. Here is what we plan to do... 1. Create a short video sequence that loops well (that my preference) 2. Convert the video to numbered sequential images (I used MPEG Streamclip) 3. Drop the images into the Dropbox App 4. Assign each student an image from the sequence 5. Import the image into a layer in Brushes app 6. Create a drawing with a uniform protocol defining colors, line size, and strategy) in a layer over image 7. Turn back the finished drawing after deleting the image layer via email with image number as the subject line 8. Collect all images and convert into a video in iMovie or an animated gif using this tool 9. Then tweak your final product to make it eligible for the international Collaborative Student Animation project, Rotoball 2012

How we learn in the art room is expanding as our digital tools grow. Take a look below at how students can now explore the concept of contour line drawing with the interactive whiteboard and the iPads.  Mirroring the iPad wirelessly with Apple TV not only makes teaching on the iPads easier, but it also shows my students everything in the Brushes App which makes teaching art projects in the Brushes App possible.. Brushes only selectively projects through VGA. The tools and layers do not show making it much harder to teach art making. ...it's really easy for others to post and promote your students' art . I'll Always Remember where I was on 11-11-1111/13/2011 On 11-11-11 I attended the IAEA conference where I presented, celebrated my student's artwork selected for the IAEA student show, networked with art teachers, learned about some inspiring art collaborations, hung out with friends while making new ones, and gave my first speech while accepting the IAEA Art Teacher of the Year award. It was such an amazing weekend and personally exciting experience. I made a photo collage of my highlights below. View it larger here. 
Congratulations to Kristelle. Her value drawing self portrait was one of only 40 pieces chosen from all of Illinois for this year long traveling exhibit. She was honored on Nov. 12th in Bloomington-Normal at the Illinois Art Educators annual conference. Her beautiful portrait was a big hit with everyone.
