This week we spent some time focusing on Digital Citizenship in the art room using our online digital art gallery. Students learned to write kind and encouraging comments to  fellow Dryden Artists. (See our internet safety fugleflick.)
We tried to find students who didn't have many comments on their artwork yet so they could experience the fun of participating onArtsonia.
Participation is really the key to making our Artsonia experience fun. When a student has fan club members they get an email for each newly published piece of artwork. The hope is that they will comment and encourage the young artists. These comments are then approved by the parents who then share them with the child. When every piece of this network participates, the young artists are encouraged and motivated to do their best!

We visually filled a bucket as we metaphorically filled buckets with our encouraging and kind comments online.
Every time a student wrote a comment they put a letter in the bucket to symbolize how they are filling up the spirits of the people they write to. This metaphor is based on a book called: Have you Filled a Bucket Today?
The third graders not only filled this bucket but I had to pull out a large vase, and create an over flow area! We counted out the pieces at the end of class and applauded their efforts to share kind words with others. We hope that the parents take a moment to approve and share these comments with their young artists. Below are some approved comments just posted this morning.

Any Guesses?

I filled an exhibit (over 100 pictures) on our online digital art gallery on Artsonia with my Draw Something sketches. Take a peek at them here and see if I successfully communicated the word I chose from the game. Write your guesses as a web comment~
I would love to hear from you!

There are TONS of comments for our students on Artsonia that need your approval! To six reasons to check your child's comments today (or at least before June 30th)!

  1. It will make your child happy to hear the good things people are saying about their artwork!
  2. Comments checked before June 30th count towards this year's hall of fame status (after June 30th they don't count for anything)
  3. Every comment checked and approved before June 30th adds to Dryden's overall stats for participation. See where we are now.
  4. I made it easy for you with this tutorial.
  5. I'm ready to help if you can't LOGIN for some reason. Just email me at tfuglestad@sd25.org
  6. Here is the link to login and check those comments. P.S. If there aren't any comments waiting, consider writing some:)

Artsonia Activity Reports are going home this weekend. Please take a second to login to your student's account and check your young artist's comments, update their fan club, help them write artist statements, and have some fun. If you don't know your way around Artsonia, I made this video to help you. Watch it below or at this link.
