Kindergarteners were asked to contemplate the difficult question of, "What is Art?" as they mixed the primary colors to make an abstract painting.
We watched this clip from Daddy Daycare to learn how to "look at abstract art" with our imagination. This helped them dream up a creative title for their piece as they squinted and tilted their heads (you have to see the clip below to understand).
There are two versions of this finished project. One is the paper collage. We printed the photos and our wonderful parent volunteers helped to cut them and glue them onto the masterpieces. The other version was created digitally. I have a tutorial below if you want to see the process. Students posed as if they were looking at their own artwork in front of our green screen. This was then digitally layered on their masterpiece and uploaded to our online art gallery on Artsonia.

Art can be so many things! This AMAZING little Fugleflick is the perfect way to introduce the different forms art can take including Sculpture, Still life, Portrait, Figure Drawing, Landscape, Graphic Design, Abstraction, and Film. See
the video or
watch the live version performed by a few staff members and myself at last year's District V-Show.
AHSD25 hosted a District Staff Variety Show to raise money for ABC/25 Foundation. Some of my talented colleagues joined me in a live performance of the original song, I AM ART as the Fuglefollies Interpretive Dance troupe. You'll hear us sing and watch us "dance" to this song about art. Featuring, Len Deptula, Joe Robinson, Danielle Porte, Kathy Riesing, and myself. (Normally, we do have faces...)
This song was originally written for the award winning I AM ART video created by 5th graders at Dryden in 2010-2011. Watch this video here: vimeo.com/16278783Quiz Question: What 5 art pieces do we reference with our poses at the end of each chorus?(Please respond in the comments). Here is a cast photo from behind stage. (Now you can see that we have faces.)
