There are lots of ways to turn yourself into a superhero or fairy. The way I usually have students do this is by drawing over and under a photo of themselves. This changes a still photo into a mix of photography and drawing as they add elements like a cape, emblem, crown, wings, wand, etc. This method teaches students about working in layers and actively forces them to consider foreground, middleground, and background. This still image can then be animated to move across a background using Do Ink animation app's composition mode. See Max's party for superheros or Sophie's party for fairies. The method I want to explore in this post is a flipbook styled drawn superhero/sprite/gnome/mythological creature that begins with a photo but ends in a completely drawn figure. This animation would move in itself with blowing hair, moving cape, twinkling fairy dust, or any other creative idea students dream up. This figure could then move across the screen over another animation, drawing, or photo all in the Do Ink Drawing and Animation app. |
Step 1: pose
Step 2: import photo and draw
Step 3: layer the flipbook animation
