I don't think I had an official post for this iPad lesson idea from long ago. This is a portrait drawing lesson adaptable for any age student using three layers in Sketchbook Express (free) with this portrait drawing template. Students would import the template to one layer, draw over the template on a new layer using it for a guide for the features of the face, then delete the template. They can then make a new layer to add base colors beneath the line drawing and another layer for highlights/shadows. See my tutorial video (start at 5:03). |
The other approach to creating a self-portrait is by working on a contour line drawing over a photo. This process can create an even more life-like result as students work on interpreting what they see into lines. I have a keystroke video of a student creating his portrait below. |
