Third graders were challenged to create a four letter wish for the world in the style of Robert Indiana's LOVE image. Then, they composed a short statement explaining their choice. The art and the text were combined using an iPhone/iPad app called Wordfoto. This app puts the words into the image in an artistic way. Take a close look at these wishes below and you can not only see their four letter wish, but also read within it their reasons why they chose this word and it's meaning to them. Please compliment these artists on our online gallery on Artsonia. Find their work: Look at the original artwork gallery here. Look at the Wordfoto gallery here. My HS students are studying the pop artists as well, and I plan to share this with them. The higher level thinking skills and the four letter wish is such a deep and empathetic idea for art. Reminds me of the six word story... Anyway I will be using your project as a journal topic for my own students to deflect and empathize- their wish for the world. Keep affecting positive change in our world through art. Tricia 02/11/2012 8:11am
Very cool Jamie. I love the responses I received from my students when they had to think about this topic. I participated in a 6 word contest online a couple weeks ago and thought I should ask my 5th grade students to do a 6 word poem for their self-portrait artist statements.
