I just returned from my state art education conference in Bloomington-Normal, IL. I had opportunities to mingle with art teachers from across the state, attend presentations on a variety of topics, present on iPad animation ideas, attend award luncheons and gallery receptions, hang out with my D25 colleagues, connect with artists, special presenters, exhibitors, see my student honored for her artwork which was selected for the traveling exhibit, and soak in lots of ideas for how to improve my art program at Dryden.

 Game Frame Pixel Art |  Glitch Art :Converting .jpg to .txt & corrupting code |
I learned about a stand alone system called Game Frame that plays pixel art as an animation. I also learned about Glitch Art made from intentionally corrupting an image file by changing it to a .txt file playing with the code then reverting back to .jpg. I went to try this during the Hour of Code week with my 5th graders. I also saw some demonstrations of Aurasma from D211 high school art teachers and visualized some solutions that might work for bringing augmented reality to our Dryden art displays.
 Took home this teacher-created interactive exquiste corpse centerpiece. The teachers were invited to draw on the sides of the box and spin it to make a mixed up figure. Click to see the lesson I created.  I peeked into the printmaking workshop in time to see the artist Jay Ryan pull this silk screened print. (The colors were nicer than my photo because the room was a bit dark.)  Karis was honored for her beautiful art when was selected from over 800 pieces to travel the state in the traveling exhibit. See this post dedicated to her. |  Saw Kris in person who I met first via ArtEd group on facebook  Loved my talks with Cassie Stephens our Keynote speaker-After I took the picture I said, "Is that too much smile? She said, You can never have too much smile."  I popped into a makerspace session and tried out a 3Doodler start pen. The teacher suggested this brand with one pen per color to conserve plastic filament.  Crazy story: my sub plans included a "how to draw a mouse" tutorial video from Cassie Stephens' collection. I was visiting with her in person when I received this tweet from Mrs. Beane showing me the results of the Kdg lesson. |
