One and a Half iPads

Our edbacker.com campaign is quickly coming to an end and we have raised enough money for one and a half iPads. That's wonderful but we can't buy a half of an iPad. Please help us raise the final $200 by making any size donation. All donors will receive our Fugleflicks QR code printable book as a thank you gift. Received Two ABC/25 Grants

YEAH! We are TWO IPADS CLOSER now to our 1:1 iPad Art Room DREAM thanks to receiving the "Can't Wait to Curate" ABC/25 grant. (View my grant below)

…and YEAH again because we now can have a class set of MINI GREEN SCREEN STUDIOS in the art room with our "Green Screen Storytelling Studio" grant.
We will be purchasing 6 iPevo table top perches and the Green Screen App from DOINK.

This is such exciting news for our art students at Dryden. We LOVE working on iPads and now we will be able to make collaborative green screen movies on our iPads. We are getting closer to reaching our goal of a 1: 1 iPad classroom.
With our two iPads from this grant our total is now 19 and 1/2. We have only a few more days to turn that 1/2 into a whole through our Edbacker.com campaign. Please consider donating! Thanks. Donate here (it's tax deductible).

I'm in an Award Winning PLN!

OUR PLN STORY: It all began on twitter when super art teachers began joining forces (we have a collaborative song too. Listen here) to create a wonderful virtual place to grow and share. One day, Stacy Lord made this picture representing a bunch of us using Lego people wearing the super shirts featuring our twitter handle purchased via ink pixie. We had a tweet up one morning during our National Art Education Conference and posed for the photo to recreate the lego recreation. I'm fuglefun (with the hat).

Warmest Way to Build a Snowman

We've found the warmest way to build a snowman using this snowman building app on our iPads. We can build an amazingly creative and unique snowman without ever touching snow in the warmth of our art room while watching a glowing fire snap and pop on the big screen to the sounds of festive music.

Really SPOOKY Landscapes-complete

Then students animated this ghost over their landscapes by layering the digital version of their painting under their semi-transparent ghost animations. They created a path and added a rotation in their 2 second clip.

After 2nd graders completed their spooky landscape paintings (view them on our online art gallery on Artsonia here), they drew an animated spooky ghost on the iPads using the DOINK app. This was a two frame animation with movement in the arms.

We all thought it was so magical to add this animation over our art work! Having iPads truly made this lesson transformational. This year's 2nd grade students were able learn about animation and transparency along with all the concepts included in making a landscape.

I dreamed up this lesson over the summer and have been posting about its progress a few times. You can explore my past posts here and here.
Below is the final project. It includes an introduction created using DOINK's Green Screen app followed by everyone's 2 second animation. They are in alphabetical order by student's first name. See all thescreenshots of students animations on Artsonia here.

Hour of Code in Art Class

Dryden fifth graders are participating in the national hour of code movement. We explored the visual programming language designed by a team at MIT called Scratch. You can see some of the finished interactive holiday cards they created made by the end of class by looking up Drydenart. Here is a fun example from Nate: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/15234204/

Dryden Art Students use Crowdfunding

Ever since Dryden's art program was awarded the second place prize of $5000 in the McGraw-Hill STEMie Awards in Oct. 2012they have been actively seeking ways to provide a 1:1 iPad experience for students in the art room. The initial prize bought 8 iPads which means 1 iPad for every 3 students in a typical art class. This is far from practical for teaching purposes. The iPad can bring so many transformational experiences to the art room. Using these devices gives art students a chance to learn animation, movie-making, graphic design, advanced digital painting techniques, as well as the ability to curate their online digital art gallery on Artsonia. With this in mind, Mrs. Fuglestad and her students decided to aggressively seek ways to raise money, write grants, enter contests, and crowdfund the other 16 iPads.

Here are the results so far:
Mc Graw-Hill contest= 8 iPads
Won 2nd place Trend Micro Internet
Safety Student Video Contest =1 iPad
Won a grant from the district's ABC/25 Foundation =1 iPad
Raised funds from purchases made via
our Artsonia Gallery =1 iPad
Raised funds from 2 projects via Donor'sChoose.org =1 iPad and =2 iPads
Total art room iPads = 14 iPads
