Fugleflicks in the Facets Kids App

About a year ago I was approached by Facets, the non-profit group that hosts the Chicago International Childrens' Film Festival, and asked if I could submit their favorite Fugleflicks to their project. They proposed making a child-friendly curated film app that gives children, parents, and teachers one place to go to view the best films for children in the world. They said they would like to include the best films by children for children as well. That is why we are SO EXCITED to announce that they specifically asked for

Well, the Facets Kids app has been released. You can explore it here.

All our Fugleflicks are free to view on vimeo, but the app is full of AMAZING videos by adults for children and children for children. It requires a subscription to view, but the non-profit will donate half the proceeds back to the filmmakers to build up their programs. Win-Win!

I put together 20 of our favorite Fugleflicks into one QR code book. Students can scan the pages with a free scan app on their iPads, plug in some headphones, and learn about art independently with our student-created art-related entertaining videos.

I also put together these same 20 favorite Fugleflicks into an eBook that you can download to your iPad (just over 40MB). They play the movies in your browser (need wifi available to view) to keep the book from being too large for your school iPads.

Fugleflick Film Fest

During the last week of school this year many groups will have a chance to celebrate art education with a Fugleflick Film Fest of student-created, art-related videos. I put together a QR code book of 18 favorite Fugleflicks for students to Scan|View|Learn from during art with our class set of iPads and earbuds*.

Learning from Fugleflicks

We have a large and ever growing collection of Fugleflicks, Student-Created Art-Related movies made by kids for kids about art.
Over the summer I started a Fugleflick QR code book that has 18 of our favorite movies. The pages have a graphic title, pictures from the book, description of the movie, learning objective AND most importantly, a QR code leading directly to the movie on vimeo. Today I realized that I had everything I needed (finally) to let my students have a chance to scan, view, and learn from our book. Here is what I needed to make this work:

iPads for each student (but with headphone splitters you could share)
my printed book with each page in sheet protectors spread out on back counter
NeoReader installed and set to open in Safari (this scan app saves hassles)
a class set of earbuds (bought super cheap from Amazon)
about 10 minutes of class time

Making the Art Room Interactive

Since we have so many Fugleflicks and audio stories connected with so many things on display in the art room, I decided today to start making the art room more interactive. Audioboo allows us to upload our audio files, a photo, and generates a QR code. I printed the codes and placed them next to the items in the room that have a story or song connected with them. For example, here is the pencil exchange.

We have been thinking about QR codes in the art room lately because of our hope to have 1:1 access to iPads by the end of the school year. I even created a Fugleflick Scan-View-Learn book for students to explore our favorite art related movies independently.
