Emotional Robot Color Wheel Posters

I turned my Emotional Robots showing a full range of feelings into a poster set for display in the classroom as a mood meter and a color wheel combined. They also are set up with augmented reality so the robots can express themselves even more through animation using the free AR app, Eyejack. The six poster set is available on TpT here.

Each robot poster has a unique QR code that can be scanned that makes the robot come alive with even more expression. There are also selected words that match the robot's feelings. This poster set can be helpful in connecting color with mood, recognizing expression, animation, monochromatic color schemes with tints and shades, and the primary/secondary colors of the color wheel. I began by painting each of the robots on canvas using a monochromatic color scheme.

When I finished the six paintings, I photographed and named them. I wanted each to have a robot name that matched their feelings. 

At first I thought they would be organized into a color wheel, but the place I installed them was better suited for rainbow order. I began on the day of the capitol riots and had them done by inauguration day. I had experienced a full range of feelings as I painted.

Now that I had the digital images of each of the robots, I decided to use my animation technique that I developed for my students to extend their expressions more dynamically. Here is the tutorial that shows this simple animation steps using a free app (Brushes Redux) and free gif maker website accessible from an iPad (ezgif.com). After the animation step, I had the key elements needed (trigger image & overlay) to set up augmented reality. These transdigital robot paintings need to be experienced both physically and digitally, so AR is the perfect solution to showcase them. I used Eyejack creator (a desktop app) to connect the image and animation. This generated a unique QR code for each robot. When scanned with the Eyejack app on a mobile device, the robots magically come to life full of expression.

Finally, I realized that I wanted to make each robot and QR code available for my classroom. The best way to do this is to make a graphic that includes the trigger image and QR code with a tiny bit of instruction for how to access the augmented reality. While putting this together I realized I could extend the learning by adding text that would give students words to help describe the feelings of each robot. I put all six together into graphics and made them available on TpT for teachers to download and print. I will have my set printed professionally and install them in the art room in lieu of a color wheel.
