First graders were introduced to Rembrandt through a 15 minute portion of the Greatest Artists Video. We looked at how he painted people showing emotions. Then we used this handout below to see a simplified contour line drawing of a face and matched it to Rembrandts' faces by emotions.
We used this handout to try to draw the eyes, eye brows, and mouths of faces that matched different emotions using the contour line drawing sheet as a guide.
Next, students looked at robot head shapes and shoulders to plan out their design.

Next, students will draw their symbol in three stages: small, medium, large. This will be used for a flipbook animation that will glow from below the robot drawing when it is laid on the iPad. We call this an Animated Glow effect. See the project that started it all.
