Over the summer I wrote an article about our all school collaborative LEGO Wall project and submitted it to School Arts Magazine. I just learned that it will be published in the November 2013 issue.
This reusable art installation was funded initially with a grant from our district's ABC/25 grant foundation. Soon after we began our first challenge, to create rotationally symmetrical designs on our base plates, a strategy for teamwork and gaming evolved that engaged every student and provided success for every age group. About a month before school was to end, I did some accounting of our materials and realized that we didn't have enough bricks to complete our wall and give the 5th graders their turn to create. I turned to a crowdfunding site called Edbacker.com to pull together the last bit of money to finish the project. We received our funding quick enough that on the last day of school the last group of art students placed the last bricks into our last baseplate.
