Mona Lisa made from Dominoes

5th graders had the opportunity to build a mural collaboratively using Dominoes after we received a grant from Donor's Choose.
We used the free plans from Robert Bosch
(download from his website here)

Prepping:

The instructions say to go through the 12 boxes of double nine dominoes and find all the pieces you need for each of the 12 sections. So, that took a long time. I took photos of each section so that the plans were big and clear for the students then loaded up everything in labeled ziplock bags.

Making:

Gluing:

All of the 12 sections were glued to cardboard rectangles. Then the rectangles were glued to a large sheet of cardboard. Then it was pressed as it dried.
It wasn't sturdy enough to stand up, so the whole thing was glued to a large piece of plywood.

Frame

We cut a cardboard frame that wraps the portrait. Students decorated it with a zentangle-ish design using metallic markers.
