My fifth graders are currently working on robots that will light up with a paper circuit designed to have a button in the robot design that closes the circuit. The other day I saw the latest cover of Newsweek magazine. It featured a couple of robots in an American Gothic Parody. My idea, though different, was inspired by this image and by my students' desire to explain all the cool things their robot "does". I thought they could share these ideas in a Newsweek Cover format and learn some graphic design tricks at the same time.

 Take a digital image of art and mask out the background using superimpose app. Save as "mask PNG" |  Use this template as the background layer in Superimpose App. |
 Layer the robot (off center gives space for text) over the template in superimpose app. Add a drop shadow. |  Import into Phonto to add text. Use different text boxes for size changes and a simple font. Tell the name & story of your robot. |

I also tried adding both the text and image using Keynote. I made template with the Newsweek background and text boxes already formatted ready for their own customization.
